Jewel Simmons was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and holds a B.A. in English from Nicholls State University. While working in her university library as an undergraduate, she dreamed of having her name on the spine of a book. The fruit of her labor is The Maverick Princess (PublishAmerica, 2004). She has two older sisters and enjoys reading, spending time with her niece and nephews, going to rummage sales on most Saturday mornings, and watching sports on television.
