SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES FOR HOT PSYCHOLOGY MAGAZINE

Hot Psychology Magazine is, for the most part, a general interest magazine about the psychological issues we all face. Its purpose is to discuss from an ‘everyman’ point of view the thoughts, feelings, beliefs, rewards and joy that are exclusive to the human condition. We aren’t a clinical publication and we don’t pretend to be. We believe that someone in need of authentic assistance should speak with their mental health professional. Still, we as humans have a lot in common, some of which oftentimes remains unsaid, and it is our job to say those things as gently yet as frankly as we can using our own voice instead of the psychological jargon that can sometimes cloud the issue.

Style

We pride ourselves on our writing so submissions should reach out and grab the reader’s attention without suffocating him. It should be clear, as error-free as possible (please use Elements of Style by Strunk & White or The AP Stylebook for assistance with grammar, spelling, quoting sources, etc) and should make sense to the “average reader.” In addition, it should try to keep the clinical jargon to a minimum unless the subject specifically calls for it.

It is helpful if the potential contributor has read previous issues of our publication for an idea of the content and style we prefer. To purchase a back issue, simply go to http://www.hot-psychology.com/subscribe.html, select the desired issue and click the appropriate Buy Now button.

We recommend that all submissions are directed initially to editor@hot-psychology.com with a short query paragraph describing yourself, the piece you are submitting and why you’d like us to consider it. Should we decide to take it further, your article will then be passed on to the appropriate section editor where they will approve or deny it based on these guidelines and the current editorial calendar.

Currently we aren’t a paying market so all we need for contact information is an email address. We will, however, need a short bio and a picture should we decide to publish your article. Further, we will not accept simultaneous submissions. In other words, if your article is being submitted elsewhere, we will not accept it. Should we decide not to accept your article, you are, of course, free to submit your piece to any other publication you like. If you article has already been published elsewhere, we will only consider it with written permission of the author and the entity in which it was published.

We prefer only email submissions and we will accept them as either Word attachments or inside the body of the email message. Because of this, though, we realize we run the risk of receiving plagiarized material. Should this occur, we will automatically reject any submission that we suspect has plagiarized another previously published article.

Submission Guidelines

Word count should be no less than 650 words and no more than 1,200. We understand that sometimes we just can not say what we need to say in 1,200 words, so, If an article is longer than 1,200 words (give or take), it should be extended and divided into two parts.

Please use Arial font size 10 Black

Single space. Do not indent, Double space between paragraphs
